1st Round Table I5.0
On June 28, 2024, the first "Round Table I5.0" took place at the Smart Production Lab in Kapfenberg. This is an event at which current topics relating to the Industry 5.0 concept are discussed with representatives from research, industry and public administration. The event was organized by the "Work of the Future" working group from the Institute of Industrial Management at FH JOANNEUM.
The event was opened by Uwe Brunner as representative of the Institute of Industrial Management and by Klaus Seybold as organizer of the event.
This was followed by an input from Roland Sommer, who presented the concept of Industry 5.0 (which is being researched in the EU project BRIDGES), as well as an overview of further developments in Industry 4.0. Manuel Pichler then presented application examples of Industry 5.0, which were highlighted as part of the ICON project.
After refreshments, discussion rounds took place. The participants had the opportunity to contribute their experience, expertise and expectations in one of the following groups:
- Human-centered moderated by Klaus Seybold
- Resilience moderated by Manuel Pichler
- Sustainability moderated by Bianca Steiner
- Opportunities & hurdles of Industry 5.0 moderated by Roland Sommer
The "human-centric" group came to the conclusion that the use of new technologies must be tailored to industries, companies, tasks and ultimately individuals. One focus was on the resulting areas of tension for managers.
The discussion round on the topic of "resilience" established that, in addition to awareness of unforeseeable events and stable communication chains, AI-driven simulation models can also lead to resilient behavior.
The third team looked at the definition and current developments and trends on the topic of "sustainability". Data was identified as an essential resource that makes it possible to make processes transparent at a very granular level, thereby making sustainable action visible.
The "Opportunities & hurdles" group collected a large number of positive effects of digitalization on employees, companies and society. On the other hand, the group also pointed out that there are hurdles to these topics that need to be adapted.
The findings of the four discussion rounds were presented in plenary at the end of the event.
This event was the first in a series of biannual round tables on the topic of Industry 5.0. The next round table is expected to take place on December 6, 2024 from 09:00 - 11:30 at the Smart Production Lab in Kapfenberg. The main topics will be announced closer to the event.
The organization team around Klaus Seybold, Christine Lichem-Herzog, Lena Leitenbauer and Bianca Steiner would like to thank all speakers and participants for the successful meeting.
