"Fablab" stands for "fabrication laboratory" and such a fabrication laboratory is a common space where interested people can meet to make things that require professional equipment. That's why our FabLab has a large machine park with the latest technologies. The focus is always on experimenting and sharing knowledge. Hobby craftsmen are just as welcome in the open workshop as mechanical engineers, artists or programmers. The variety of things that are produced is similarly broad: They range from material tinkering and small works of art to musical instruments and machine elements or housings. Inventors can produce their first prototypes in the FabLab and turn their ideas into reality. More about the FabLab initiative can be found on the official homepage.

The machinery that can be used in the course of FabLab operations currently includes the following machines, workstations and software applications:

  • 3D printer (6)
  • Laser Cutter (2)
  • Vinyl Cutter (1)
  • Water jet cutter (1)
  • Sandblaster (1)
  • CNC lathe (1)
  • CNC milling machine (1)
  • Metal band saw (1)
  • Floor drill (1)
  • Assembly workstations with tools, soldering station (4)
  • Workstations with Solidworks and InkScape (3)

The CNC machines and the metal band saw are subject to the restriction that they are available in principle, but are ultimately operated by employees of the Industrial Management Institute.

What preparations for use are necessary?

The FabLab is open to the public. In order to use the FabLab, users receive basic training and then register for FabLab operation. Based on this, training can be provided on the machines by supervisors from the Institute of Industrial Management. Once they have been trained on the machine, FabLab users can realize their ideas there themselves. The use of the infrastructure is free of charge. Only the materials purchased on site (e.g. 3D printing filaments or acrylic plates for the laser cutter) are charged. In principle, it is possible to process materials that you have brought with you, but this must be checked and approved in advance by a FabLab supervisor.

Registration is requested in advance. Simply go to Events, search and find your desired date and use the "Register" function.

Opening hours

The FabLab is open to our visitors free of charge every second Tuesday from 16:00 to 20:00, subject to change. You can find the next dates here.
